Presenter: Mario Medici

Registration required:  https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_txjzAAH8T1a1dFGPYXN5nA

Historically, canals were of immense importance to commerce and the development, growth and vitality of a civilization. Transportation routes built for commerce developed slowly in the Northeast, and it was not until after the American Revolution that some thought was given to building local area canals. This presentation covers the history of area canals, such as the Erie, Delaware and Lehigh (D&L), and Morris Canals, why they were built, how they affected the region, how they operated, and much more. Lectures are supplemented with photos, both historic and current, as well as information about where canals can be visited today.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Pennington Public Library.
