Art Talk: John Singer Sargent

March 20 @ 7:00 pm - 8:15 pm

Art Talk: John Singer Sargent
Thursdays, March 13 and 20, 2025 @ 7 pm via Zoom
Presenter: Janet Mandel, Arts Educator

Registration required:  https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_cZx7tWgGRBSPlo2nCngz4Q

John Singer Sargent was an American artist who spent most of his life in Europe. He painted two United States presidents, the aristocracy of Europe, the uber-wealthy of America, and mythological heroes. He immortalized business tycoons and the avatars of modern culture. But he also painted gypsies, tramps, street children, hard-working laborers, and the horrors of war. And he created dazzling landscapes—a visual chronicle of the places he visited. This talk requires two parts to adequately convey the breadth and depth of Sargent’s prodigious and masterful output.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Pennington Public Library and the Hopewell Valley Arts Council.

About our Presenter:  Janet Mandel taught in New Jersey’s public schools for 32 years, the last eighteen of which were at Columbia High School in Maplewood, where she taught English, art history, and World Languages and Cultures. Now retired, Janet presents illustrated talks on a variety of art history topics at adult schools, libraries, museums, senior centers, community centers, and similar venues.
