March 9, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Wednesday March 9, 2022, 1-4 pm
Location: Pennington Quilt Works, 7 Tree Farm Road, Pennington, NJ 08534
SOLD OUT – Registration: Call 609-737-4321 or visit Penningtonquilts.com

Many cultures throughout time have created methods of reusing or repurposing textiles.  We’ll look at the similarities of the simplest forms of Boro, Sashiko, Kiwandi, and Kantha, and the influence on American craft and even fashion.

For over 5 centuries Indian women have layered old cotton and silk saris and stitched them together by hand to make bed coverings and throws. Although we have no old saris, we’ll use quilting cotton to help each of you to make your own hand-stitched Kantha cloth sample that can be used as a table mat.  The session is free and all supplies will be provided by Pennington Quilt Works. Open to all. No experience is necessary.

This program is part of the 2022 NEA Big Read, which encourages the Pennington community to read the same book and participate in a wide variety of events. The Best We Could Do is an intimate and poignant graphic novel portraying one family’s journey from war-torn Vietnam. Please visit PenningtonLibrary.org/2022BigRead for a full calendar of events and more information.

NEA Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
