We are excited to share that the Pennington Public Library is joining forces with our neighboring libraries to host a Frederick Douglass Day event on Friday, February 13, 2026!

What is Douglass Day? It is a “transcribe-a-thon” held every year to celebrate Frederick Douglass’s birthday and Black History Month. Thousands of people across the country gather virtually to help digitize and transcribe the records of Black history so they are preserved and searchable for future generations. It’s part history, part community service, and part birthday party. (We’re planning to provide some sweets!)

A Note on Technology:  Since we do not have public laptops available for this event, we are asking all participants to bring their own devices. Laptops are best for transcribing, but iPads and other tablets work great as well! (Mobile phones can work in a pinch, though the screens are a bit small for detailed typing.)
