Great Websites for Kids – free websiteSponsored by the Association of Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association.

Middle Search Plus – Contains full text for more than 150 popular middle school magazines. In addition to the full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for nearly 200 magazines. All full text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles).

NoveList K-8 – Book reviews and annotations for fiction titles that are popular with young readers as well as titles that are appropriate for classroom use. Browse by subject headings and genres, as well as featured read-alikes.

American Memory – free Federal website – This collection of the Library of Congress is a treasure trove of primary source materials in American history. Included are written and spoken words, sound recordings, still and moving pictures, maps and sheet music.

Points of View Reference Center – A full text database designed to provide students with a series of essays that present multiple sides of a current issue. The database provides 200 topics, each with an overview (objective background/description), point (argument) and counterpoint (opposing argument).

World Factbook – free website – The online equivalent of the print title by the same name. Surveys each of the world’s countries, providing a map, a historical narrative, and fairly extensive statistical information on every nation. Produced by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency.
