Busy Town Returns to Pennington

For the fifth year in a row, Pennington’s preschoolers and kindergartners came to meet and thank our community helpers during Busy Town. Pennington’s Busy Town was inspired by Richard Scarry’s book Busy, Busy Town. Conceived and organized by former Pennington Public Library Children’s Librarian Cindy Persichilli, Pennington’s Busy Town invites shopkeepers and firefighters, restaurant owners and municipal workers, to come out on North Main Street to talk with area kids about their work.

The youngsters, meanwhile, have been escorted into town by their teacher-chaperones and the drum major from Hopewell High School’s Marching Black & Gold, before being greeted by Borough Mayor Anthony Persichilli. This year, on the morning of Thursday, April 28, the rain held off and the children listened with wide eyes and smiles as these community helpers explained their jobs with trucks, props, live animals, and of course, related story-books.

The Friends of the Pennington Library plan to carry on with the tradition of Busy Town next year.
